While addiction is not curable, it is very much treatable. In order to maintain abstinence the addict must work at it for their entire life. They're many different treatment options out there including rehabilitation, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, behavioral therapy, etc. Like any other disease, relapse is always a possibility.
